ここは雪国
冬の夜は何もかもが眠る
そこに光が照る

ここだけに傾けられたように
そこは呼吸を取り戻す
それが雪国のリズムだ

冬に降り積もった雪は
この地に溶けていく
私の中にも雪は
少しずつ溶けていく

雪国のリズム
この地の雪を私は書く

それは身を削っていくような行為
その実は
私の身を考えを
守っていくということである

雪のしんしんとしたリズムにのせて
ペン先を
今まで思ってきた少しずつのことを
少しずつ削り取っていきたいと思う

13歳の冬に彼が抱いた
「一生をかけて書く」という覚悟は、
今も息づいています。

This is snow country.

On winter nights, all things sleep.

And yet a light shines there —

as though tilted toward this place alone.

There, breath is restored.

That is the rhythm of snow country.
The snow that falls and gathers through winter

melts into this land.

Within me, too, the snow

melts — little by little.
The rhythm of snow country.

The snow of this place — I write it.

It is an act like shaving away at oneself.

Yet in truth,

it is a way of protecting

my body, my thoughts.
Carried on the quiet, steady rhythm of snow,

I want to set my pen to the page

and shave away, little by little,

all that I have thought, little by little.

The opening piece, "On the Founding," marks the beginning of a resolve — a commitment to writing. This inaugural issue is the origin of Rintaro Beppu's voice as set down on paper.
New words from Rintaro Beppu at twenty-three have been added, and the magazine is now being reprinted in an expanded edition.
The resolve he carried at thirteen — to write for the whole of his life — lives on.

Our original publication date of December 5th has been moved. Due to a review of our production process, the release will be slightly delayed. Orders are now open, and we will ship before the end of the year. To everyone who has been waiting, we offer our sincerest apologies. We are working carefully until the very end, so that this reaches you in the best possible form.
